Crypto Discord Channels Hit by Coordinated Hacking Spree
This past week, several prominent crypto firms, including Witness Chain, Polygon, Avalanche, ZkSync, and Orderly Network, fell victim to cyberattacks. Witness Chain, a blockchain-based DePIN validation project, reported its Discord channel compromised today, on August 30th, through the distribution of deceptive links.
Core contributor Pankaj Agarwal alerted members via his X account, cautioning against engaging with suspicious recovery processes linked to these attacks.
Earlier incidents saw similar patterns. The Polygon Discord channel experienced a breach on August 24th, also via phishing links.

Following this security breach, the channel’s Chief Security Officer, Mehta Gupta, immediately advised members against clicking on any links. Sadly, one user reportedly lost $150,000 to these fraudulent schemes.
Subsequent attacks unfolded with alarming quickness. Within 48 hours of the Polygon incident, both the Avalanche and zkSync Discord channels were likewise infiltrated. Shared deceptive links were once again the culprits.

However, teams associated with these platforms have responded swiftly. They have successfully regained control of their channels and are currently working to strengthen security measures to prevent future incidents.
