Galaxy S25 Ultra battery upgrade hopes dashed by new information

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra will not go official till late January 2025, but it has already been in the news a lot. We’ve seen its CAD renders that suggest a few design tweaks, but one area where the S25 Ultra might disappoint is its battery.Galaxy S25 Ultra battery upgrade hopes dashed by new information

Early rumors suggested no improvement in battery capacity for the S25 Ultra compared to its predecessor. Now, a listing on China’s Compulsory Certification (CCC) database, spotted by 91Mobiles, seemingly confirms this.

The listing reveals a battery capacity of 4,885mAh, which would likely be marketed as 5,000mAh—the same as the Galaxy S24 Ultra. There will be no change in charging speeds as well, according to previous reports.

This is in contrast to what we’ve been hearing about upcoming flagship phones from Chinese competitors like Honor, OnePlus, OPPO, Vivo, and Xiaomi. These brands are expected to equip their next flagship phones with battery capacities close to 6,000mAh.

Additionally, they are upgrading to Silicon Carbide battery technology, which offers higher energy density than traditional lithium-ion batteries. This allows manufacturers to either increase battery capacity in the same space or slim down devices without reducing capacity. While the battery might not be a standout feature

the S25 Ultra is still shaping up to be a compelling flagship. Rumors suggest a new design with rounded corners, a camera upgrade featuring a 200MP primary sensor alongside 50MP telephoto and ultrawide lenses, and the power of either the Exynos 2500 or the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor, both built on the efficient 3nm architecture.

The device is also expected to run Android 15 with Samsung’s One UI 7.1 customization, likely offering seven years of software updates and Galaxy-specific AI features.
