Lost Dogs marks the beginning of a different gameplay mechanic with new models designed for long-term sustainability.
Popular tap-to-earn (T2E) game Notcoin (NOT) has launched a dog-themed Telegram game called Lost Dogs in association with The Open Network (TON) NFT project of the same name.

Lost Dogs is a story-driven game in which the player embarks on dog-themed quests on Telegram. To start playing, users must go to the game’s official Telegram channel, Lost Dogs: The Way, and click on the Play The Way tab to initiate the app.

The gameplay offers different tasks that can be completed in different ways, affecting the narrative of the story with ethical implications. Further, users can join communities called Squads and invite new users to prepare new strategies.

As players progress through the game and complete more tasks, they earn WOOF and NOT. WOOF is an in-game token that could be converted to a TON-based token in the future, just as NOT did. Moreover, the characters, which are based on the original Lost Dogs NFT collection, gain special powers and attributes. However, Lost Dogs has a particular mechanic—it will only run for six weeks, which is considerably different from other crypto games.

Veering Away from Tap-To-Earn

Overall, Lost Dogs’ launch is a step away from the typical tap-to-earn model, in which Notcoin users only have to tap on a button to earn NOT rewards. This shift likely reflects concerns about the lack of long-term sustainability with these types of games.

There were already signs that Notcoin was veering away from that tap-to-earn narrative after launching the Explore feature on July 5. This feature renewed the interest in the Notcoin ecosystem as it allows users to engage with several different decentralised applications (dApps) and web3 projects, earning NOT as a reward. Notcoin became a crypto sensation in early 2024, pioneering the tap-to-earn genre in Telegram, reaching over 35 million players, a number that expanded amid Telegram’s surge to 950 million users.
